Stacie Cunningham | Creative Voice
In the wide expanse of today’s content creator universe it take a lot of creativity and risk to get noticed. It almost seems like a hopeless cause to even try to be a force when starting out these days. Still, new voices, new creative approaches and personalities like Stacies are popping up to the surface to be recognized all the time. When I sat down with Stacie to talk about what she does and how she see decided to dive into the fashion influencer world; I had to ask what have her to courage and motivation.
“I guess the first time I took fashion ‘seriously’ was when I got a job at River Island. I was surrounded daily by the latest trends and I started to realize that I wanted to work in the fashion industry in some way or another.” Stacie says, “I was aiming to become a ‘Visual Merchandiser’ as I loved putting outfits together and getting creative but at around the same time I started my blog and it became apparent that blogging about fashion was what I really enjoyed doing.”
“I love writing. I wanted to create something that could be an outlet for any creative tension I was storing. My blog started off as a little hobby for myself. I never knew people would actually be interested in it to be honest!” Stacie tells me.
This was all awesome stuff but it didn’t tell me how she differentiates and stands out to be noticed in today’s crowded fashion influencer world. “Attending events where I get to meet like-minded people can be really beneficial in all aspects. I come away feeling inspired, I get to meet people in the industry and connect with them, I get work through attending events and it’s content to feature too!” So, that’s the way Stacie elevates her relationships in the industry, shares, and distribution of her content (I thought), but it doesn’t explain how she (and other stand-outs in the new fashion landscape stand out with their own personal style.
“Sooo, what’s your person style?” I ask sort of slyly to try and pry out what exactly about Stacie’s personal style makes others want to follow her, share her content, and stay engaged. “Eclectic. I don’t feel like I have a particular style. I love color blocking with brights but then I also love autumnal fashion, heavy knits and layering. I like fun girly pastel colors and also smarter and elegant looks for events. It really depends on what I’m doing that day! Although to say I’m a fashion blogger, I do spend 99% of my time bundled up in my dressing gown!”
Oh, this is a British way of saying ‘Night Gown’
“Surprisingly my dad?!”, Stacie says “I remember when I was a teenager my dad told me ‘you don’t have to wear what everyone else is wearing, be your own person’ and since then I tend to wear things that I’m drawn to, rather than what’s ‘in style’. Sometimes it’s a fashion trend, sometimes it’s something I picked up at the charity shop. I just wear what I like, rather than being influenced by others.”
Rewards of the Journey
“For me it’s the comments of my readers and the bonds I create with them. Simple things like people telling me I inspired them to try something out of their comfort zone. I love hearing that I’ve made a positive impact on someone, even if it’s something small. It’s a really rewarding feeling to know that other people enjoy what I do, and not just me.”
Favorite Fashion Element
Sequins. I love a good sparkly number. I have a whole rail dedicated to sequins and when it’s party season, it’s my time to shine! Also, Autumn fashion is something I’m particularly fond of.
Fashion Teaching Moment
“Go to a shop and find something that you think ‘I love that but it wouldn’t suit me’ and buy it. Wear it. Style it to your liking and just rock it. Anybody can wear anything if they have confidence. It’s not about the item, it’s how you style it! It’s all about pushing yourself out of your comfort zone. You’ll find yourself feeling happier if you just wear what you want!”
